The type species (holotype) of the genus Chrysochromulina is Chrysochromulina parva Lackey.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Prymnesium palpebrale (S.Seoane, Eikrem, Edvardsen & Pienaar) Edvardsen, Eikrem & Probert.

Type locality: Nervión Estuary, Basque country, Spain; (Seoane et al. 2009: 168) Holotype: Figs 1-4: 2 September 2003; seaward side mouth of river; (Seoane et al. 2009: 168) Notes: Type culture: Strain UIO133 maintained at University of Basque country, Spain, and the University of Oslo Culture Collection, Norway.
