Type locality: mountains of southern Victoria Land; (Tschermak-Woess & Friedmann 1984: 453) Holotype: cryptoendolithic in rocks of quartzitic sandstone; psychrophilic; BM ; from culture No. (126)A778-50 (Tschermak-Woess & Friedmann 1984: 453) Notes: Isotypes: in WV, W and US. Epitype: cryopreserved strain SAG 62.90 designated in Darienko et al., 2016: 1142.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), of or pertaining to the Antarctic (Stearn 1973).
