The type species (lectotype) of the genus Ceratium is Ceratium tetraceras Schrank.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Tripos carriensis (Gourret) Hallegraeff & Huisman.

Supposed type locality: "In the plankton of the waters off Calicut, on the west coast of India. Recorded in April and May, 1949."; (Subrahmanyan 1968: 83)
