The type species (holotype) of the genus Rhynchomonas is Rhynchomonas nasuta (A.Stokes) G.A.Klebs.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pronoctiluca acuta (Lohmann) J.Schiller.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), acute, pointed; i.e. narrowing gradually and making an angle of less than 90° (Stearn 1973).
