Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Scinaia interrupta (A.P.de Candolle) M.J.Wynne.

Type Information
Notes: INA gives as type locality "In mari Adriatico ad Tergestum Bissoletto!" [Trieste, Italy] but this seems to refer (Agardh 1842: 98) to the nominate variety. Athanasidis (2016: 156) gives "Tanger" [Tangiers, Morocco] as the type locality and cited LD herb. alg. Agardh no. 32180 as the type.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), forked; having a small notch at apex (Stearn 1973).
