Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Rhodymenia is Rhodymenia palmetta (Stackhouse) Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gracilaria punctata (Okamura) Yamada.

Type locality: Prov. Tosa [now incorporated in Kochi Prefecture on Shikoku, Japan].; (Okamura 1929: pl. CCLVIII [258]) Holotype: SAP; 84069 (Gurgel & al. 2018: 11) Notes: Gurgel et al. (2018) list the date of collection of the holotype as 8 Aug. 1933, which is after the date of publication.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), dotted, marked with dots, spots, minute glands, etc. (Stearn 1973).
