The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rytiphlaea tinctoria (Clemente) C.Agardh.

Adjective (Latin), used in dying (Stearn 1973).
