This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pterothamnion plumula (J.Ellis) Nägeli.

Type locality: Unlocalised, probably Sussex, England; (Maggs & Hommersand 1993: 26) Lectotype: Ellis’s original illustration (pl. XVIII: G) (epitype) (Maggs & Hommersand 1993: 26) Notes: Dixon (1960) considered that the type was lost. Maggs & Hommersand (1993: 26) selected as lectotype Ellis’s illustration in pl. XVIII: fig. G.

Origin of Species Name
Noun (Latin), diminutive of "pluma", a wing; plumule (Brown 1946).
