The type species (lectotype) of the genus Delesseria is Delesseria sanguinea (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hypoglossum armatum (J.Agardh) J.Agardh.

Type locality: Port Phillip Heads, Victoria; (Womersley 2003: 52) Holotype: Wilson; 29 December 1891; LD, Herb. Agardh; 31575 (Womersley 2003: 52) Notes: Womersley (2003: 52) notes that there are isotypes in MEL (10057) and BM.

Adjective (Latin), equipped, armed (Stearn 1973).
