The type species (lectotype) of the genus Monosporus is Monosporus pedicellatus (Smith) Solier.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Anotrichium furcellatum (J.Agardh) Baldock.

Adjective (Latin), thin, fine, slender (Stearn 1973).
