The type species (holotype) of the genus Rhopalodia is Rhopalodia gibba (Ehrenberg) O.Müller.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Epithemia vermicularis (O.Müller) Cocqyut & R.Jahn.

Type locality: Central Africa: Lake Victoria, Rukagara; (Index Nominum Algarum) Lectotype: [Icon] pl. 2 fig. 11 in Müller 1895: slide B 40 0042023 in B; valve representing the epitype illustrated as Fig. 50 (epitype) (Cocquyt et al. 2018: 50, fig. 49) Notes: Locality of the epitype: Lake Nyassa near penisula Kanda, surge zone on stalks, (sample B 52 0000023).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), worm-shaped, almost cylindrical and bent in places, marked with irregular waves or bent lines (Stearn 1973).
