The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halymenia elongata var. decipiens (J.Agardh) Cremades.
Origin of Species Name
Participle B (Latin), deceiving (used of a species closely resembling another) (Stearn 1973).
