The type species (holotype) of the genus Beckerella is Beckerella pinnatifida (J.Agardh) Kylin.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ptilophora dentata (Kützing) Alongi, Cormaci & G. Furnari.

Isotype locality: Cape Matapan, Southern Peloponnesus, Greece; (Tronchin, Freshwater & Bolton 2003: 82)

Adjective (Latin), Mediterranean Sea (Stearn 1973).
