The type species (lectotype) of the genus Lithophyllum is Lithophyllum incrustans Philippi.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Heteroderma jugatum (Foslie) De Toni.

Type locality: Ny Seland [= New Zealand]; Island Bay near Wellington; uppermost sublittoral zone, on stipes of Lessonia variegata; vi.1904; (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 35) Holotype: (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 35) Notes: "slide 1143 and one unnumbered slide; Setchell collection number 6039; [no pfa]" (Woelkering et al. 2005: 35)
