The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cryptonemia digitata (J.Agardh) Womersley & J.A.Lewis.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), digitate, with leaflets radiating from tip of leaf-stalk (Stearn 1973).
