The type species (lectotype) of the genus Nemastoma is Nemastoma dichotomum J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Nemastoma dichotomum var. longitrichogynum (Ercegović) Athanasiadis.

Type Information
Type locality: Kornati Islands, middle Adriatic Sea (Croatia); (Rodriguez-Prieto & al. 2004: 45) Lectotype (female): Ercegovic ; October 1938 (one month after the collection of the holotype); PC; (Rodriguez-Prieto & al. 2004: 45) Notes: Holotype presumed to have been destroyed.
