The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cystoseira trinodis (Forsskål) C.Agardh.

Type locality: Sunda Strait, Indonesia; (Silva & al. 1996: 650) Type: G. Watts; (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: The plants figured by Turner were collected by Mr G. Watts.
