The type species (lectotype) of the genus Ceratium is Ceratium tetraceras Schrank.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Tripos pennatus (Kofoid) F.Gómez.

Adjective (Latin), pinnate (Stearn 1973).
