Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Ceratium is Ceratium tetraceras Schrank.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Tripos hexacanthus f. spiralis (Kofoid) F.Gómez.

Adjective (Latin), reticulate, netted, marked with a network (Stearn 1973).
