The type species (holotype) of the genus Rhodymenia is Rhodymenia palmetta (Stackhouse) Greville.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halopeltis australis (J.Agardh) G.W.Saunders.

Type locality: Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 370) Lectotype: Preiss; MEL; 504193 (Womersley 1996: 75) Notes: Womersley (1996: 75) notes that the lectotype was first published by Millar (1990: 367).

Adjective (Latin), south, southern (Stearn 1973).
