Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Plocamium is Plocamium vulgare J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Plocamium cirrhosum (Turner) M.J.Wynne.

Habitat
Found on coasts of rough to moderate wave action, and known from depths of 3 to 20 m (Womersley 1994: 381).
