The type species (holotype) of the genus Iridaea is Iridaea cordata (Turner) Bory.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pachymenia orbitosa (Suhr) L.K.Russell.

Type locality: "Cap, gefunden von Drège." [Cape of Good Hope, South Africa]; (Suhr 1840: 276) Notes: According to Drège (1841: 111) collected at "Tafelbaai, bei der Stadt und auf Paardeneiland, Mai, Juni.".
