The type species (lectotype) of the genus Corallina is Corallina officinalis Linnaeus.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Jania sagittata (J.V.Lamouroux) Blainville.

Type locality: "...l'Île-de-France" [Mauritius]; (Lamouroux, Bory de Saint-Vincent & Eudes-Deslongchamps 1824: 215) Holotype: collector unknown; 1817-1820; CN; herb. Lamouroux sine numero (Woelkerling & de Reviers, 2008: 305, fig. 2) Notes: Holotype is illustrated in Woelkerling & de Reviers (2008: fig. 2).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), saggitate, shaped like an arrow-head with two equal sharp basal lobes directed downwards (Stearn 1973).
