Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Lithothamnion is Lithothamnion muelleri Lenormand ex Rosanoff.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Clathromorphum circumscriptum (Strömfelt) Foslie.
Type Information
Type locality: Port Clarence, Alaska [Bering Sea 65.265974, -166.852765]; (Kjellman 1889: 22) Holotype: F.R. Kjellman; vii.1877; UPS; A-000297 (Peña & al. 2021: 6) Notes: "Type: apparently not designated (Woelkerling 1993: 81). TRH has two syntypes (C21-3516, C21-3517)." (Woelkering et al. 2005: 495). According to Peña et al., 2021: 6, TRH fragment is now considered an isotype (Art. 8.3, Turland et al. 2018).
