The type species (holotype) of the genus Pterocladiella is Pterocladiella capillacea (S.G.Gmelin) Santelices & Hommersand.

Type locality: Teluk Kemang, Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan (2º26'38"N, 101º51'21"E); (Sohrabipour & al. 2013) Holotype: J. Sohrabipour; 29 August 2011; thalli epilithic and also on small peices of coral among P. beachiae and P. caerulescens in the mid-intertidal zone; KLU; PSM12599-1 (Sohrabipour & al. 2013: 523, 525) Notes: Isotypes: KLU PSM 12600-1, KLU PSM12601-1.
