The type species (holotype) of the genus Thysanocladia is Thysanocladia dorsifera (C.Agardh) Harvey.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Callophycus oppositifolius (C.Agardh) P.C.Silva.

Adjective (Latin), pectinate, with narrow close-set divisions like a comb (Stearn 1973).
