The type species (holotype) of the genus Peridinium is Peridinium cinctum (O.F.Müller) Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Unruhdinium durandii (S.Rodriguez, Couté, Ten-Hage & Mascarell) Moestrup & Calado.
