The type species (lectotype) of the genus Vidalia is Vidalia spiralis (J.V.Lamouroux) J.V.Lamouroux ex J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Osmundaria prolifera J.V.Lamouroux.

Type locality: not specified (King George Sound, Western Australia); (Silva & al. 1996: 532) Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Harvey (1862: pl. CLXXXVIII).
