The type species (holotype) of the genus Lyngbya is Lyngbya confervoides C.Agardh ex Gomont.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Microseira wollei (Farlow ex Gomont) G.B.McGregor & Sendall ex Kenins.
