Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Melobesia is Melobesia membranacea (Esper) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Fosliella fertilis (Me.Lemoine) Segonzac.

Type locality: Station 2, Coiba Island, Gulf of Panama, Pacific Oceania; (Woelkerling 1998: 371) Holotype: C. Crossland; date not indicated but material forms part of the St George Expedition 1923-1924; BM; algal box collection 1768 (Woelkerling 1998: 371) Notes: Holotype fragments: PC, unnumbered, General Herbarium box collection (non-fossil; filed under non-geniculate coralline type collections cabinet under basionym).
