The type species (lectotype) of the genus Goniolithon is Goniolithon papillosum (Zanardini ex Hauck) Foslie.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lithophyllum frutescens f. galapagense (Foslie) W.R.Taylor.
