The type species (lectotype) of the genus Porphyra is Porphyra purpurea (Roth) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pyropia tanegashimensis (I.Shinmura) N.Kikuchi & E. Fujiyoshi.
