The type species (holotype) of the genus Cyclotella is Cyclotella tecta Håkansson & R.Ross.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lindavia servant-vildaryae (Mukhina) Nakov, Guillory, Julius, Theriot & Alverson.
