The type species (lectotype) of the genus Cladophora is Cladophora oligoclona (Kützing) Kützing.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Arnoldiella kosterae (C.Hoek) C.Boedeker.

Type locality: Paris, Jardin des Plantes, alpine garden; (Hoek 1963: 38) Type: van den Hoek; 25/4/1961; on stones in as artifical brooklet with Cl. glomerata; Culture collection of Algae and Protozoa, Cambridge; 61/9 (Hoek 1963: 38) Notes: Holotype: L 0054830 (Boedeker et al. 2012: 821).
