This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Coscinodiscus stellaris Roper.

Type locality: "...obtained near the ice-barrier of the Antarctic"; (Castracane 1886: 158)

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), stellate, with narrow divisions radiating from the center like the rays of a star (Stearn 1973).
