This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Willemoesia humilis (J.Rattray) Van Heurck.

Type locality: "... from a depth of 325 fathoms ... among mud in a sounding taken among the ice-masses of the Antarctic."; (Castracane 1886: 168)

Adjective (Latin), low, low-growing (Stearn 1973).
