Description: Thallus to 6 cm, with monosiphonous, erect axes. Apical cells divide by oblique septa to produce alternate-distichous determinate branchlets, curved at first, becoming reflexed when mature. Indeterminate branches at intervals in whorls consisting of 1 determinate branchlet and 1-3 indeterminate branches. Axes corticated below with decurrent branched rhizoids. Cells-multinucleate. Procarps 2-4 cells below branch apices, 2 uninucleate pericentral cells at right angles to one another with sterile cell and carpogonial branch on first formed pericentral cell (= supporting cell). Each pericentral cell cuts off an auxiliary cell and either or both fuse with a connecting cell from the carpogonium and form carposporophyte surrounded by involucral branches from the axial cell below. Spermatangia in loose heads. Sporangia polyhedrally divided.

Comments: Recorded only from South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula usually growing on a bryozoan epiphytic on Phyllophora ahnfeltioides Kylin and Myriogramme manginii Gain in clear offshore water, 13-16 m deep, October to January. All plants epiphytized by diatoms and the green alga Entocladia. Transfer of Antarcticothamnion to tribe Compsothamnieae has been proposed.
