Holotype species: Dicroerisma psilonereiella F.J.R.Taylor & S.A.Cattell

Original publication and holotype designation: Taylor, F.J.R. & Cattell, S.A. (1969). Dicroerisma psilonereiella gen. et sp. nov., a new dinoflagellate from British Columbia coastal waters. Protistologica 5: 169-172.

Description: Biflagellate cell slightly compressed dorsoventrally, pear-shaped, of medium size (23-32 µm). Cingulum median, displaced, sulcus reduced. Cell wall rigid, but no thecal plates. The distinctive feature is an internal skeleton of unknown composition which is inverse Y-shaped and bifurcated at each end. No chloroplasts. Nucleus located median, U-shaped. Marine plankton, so far found only by its authors in British Columbia and in the Andaman Sea.
