Description: Foliose, lanceolate, cleft or uncleft, sometimes proliferous from margin, with short, narrow stipe and small discoid holdfast. Thallus surface corrugated. Medulla filamentous. Inner cortical cells stellate to elliptical, branching subdichotomously and becoming progressively smaller and fusiform toward cuticle, inner and intermediate cortical cells forming lateral protuberances. Rhizoids and secondary pit connections present. Ampullae with two orders of branches. Carpogonial branch 2-celled, on primary ampullar filament. Hypogynous cell with sterile lateral. Auxiliary cell a proximal cell of a primary filament or the basal cell of a secondary filament in a separate ampulla. A single, outwardly directed gonimoblast initial producing numerous gonimoblast filaments. Pericarp produced by ampullar filaments. Most gonimoblast cells maturing into carposporangia. Small auxiliary fusion cell and carpostome present. Cystocarp embedded. Spermatangia undescribed. Tetrasporophyte isomorphic. Tetrasporangia small, cruciate, attached subbasally in intermediate cortical layer. Revised description (Rodríguez-Prieto et al., 2022: [15].
