Description: Very small flagellate with single flagellum which is usually curved around the body. The flagellum occasionally stretches out quickly to full length but immediately rolls up around the body again. The cell may swim for a short distance with the flagellum undulating behind the cell. The cell contains a single chloroplast with a pyrenoid. A stigma is located on the pyrenoid surface. A cell wall is lacking and both flagellar and body surfaces are without scales of any kind. The only known species is widely distributed (Norway, Denmark, Australia, Japan), and probably occurs in most if not all seas. Certain species presently included in the genus Pedinomonas, but not examined critically with electron microscopy, may belong to Resultor. The ultrastructure of Resultor was described by Moestrup (1991) when erecting the class Pedinophyceae, a class of supposedly primitive (ancient) green flagellates with little known phylogenetic affinity to other green algae. Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
