Description: Medium sized (35 - 25 µm) laterally compressed thecate dinoflagellate with a small flattened or domed epicone, a distinct girdle, and a large hypocone. In lateral view the irregular outline of the ventral region is characteristic. Nucleus ovoid, in the lower part of the hypocone. No chloroplasts, nutrition by phagotrophy. Sexual reproduction and cyst formation not known. Marine, in damp sand.
