Description: Emended description: Cells solitary, spherical with smooth cell wall. Immature cells uninucleate, mature cells multinucleate, with one parietal, cup-shaped chloroplast in young cells becoming reticulate to spongiform with age. A single pyrenoid in immature cells and several pyrenoids in mature cells. Pyrenoid matrix split into several pieces. Size of mature cells >80 µm. Reproduction by zoospores of the "Protosiphon" type (without cell walls) or autospores.
