Precise date of publication: 30 March 1911 (see Woelkerling & Lamy 1998: 682 for details). The requirements for valid publication are specified in the ICBN (International Code of Botanical Nomenclature).

Description: No description is currently provided as the name is currently in synonymy.

Taxonomic status: This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phymatolithon.

Comments: Düwel & Wegeberg (1996) confirmed from a detailed study of the lectotype specimen of Squamolithon lenormandii (J.E. Areschoug) Heydrich (i.e. Melobesia lenormandii J.E. Areschoug) that it belongs to Phymatolithon. Adey (1966: 325) had earlier placed the species in Phymatolithon but without examining the type. Consequently, Squamolithon Heydrich (1911) is considered to be a heterotypic synonym of Phymatolithon Foslie (1898).
