Description: Plants epilithic on subtidal rocks, attached with parenchymatous perennial disc-shaped holdfast, solitary of caespitose, filiform, solid, simple, up to 20 cm in length and 1 mm in diameter, parenchymatous, almost isodiametric, later thickened in the middle part, yellowish brown when young later becoming dark reddish brown. Each cells contain many discoid chloroplasts without pyrenoids. Young erect thalli solid, composed of 2-3 layers of inner cells and peripheral cells. In cross section, inner cells roundish in shape, smaller in inner part, almost colorless but containing many granules, ca. 3 _m in diameter. Peripheral cells cubic, pigmented. As the thalli grow, the peripheral cells develop into large clavate cells, being responsible for the formation of thickened part of thallus. In vegetative condition, those cells contain many chloroplasts and granules in outer part of thallus, becoming dense and smear as it matures. Plurilocular antheridia and single oogonia formed in the clavate cells under short day low temperature conditions. Sperm release occurs through apical cleavage. Sperm normally biflagellated, containing a reduced chloroplast with a stigma. Egg or zygote germinates in a similar manner as fucalean embryos and directly develops into parenchymatous erect thallus. Basal disc form secondarily from the lower surface cells of erect thallus. Zinova (1954) placed this genus in the Delamareaceae, however, the unique vegetative as well as reproductive structures show its distant systematic position from the family and the Dictyosiphonales. Erect thalli spring to winter annual, maturing in winter. Known only from Okhotsk Sea coast and adjacent area.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
