Description: Plants reach 20 cm in length, are erect, terete, repeatedly dichotomous, and anchored by a crustose holdfast. Spermatangia are superficial on upper axes. Carposporophytes are composed of sterile, small-celled inner tissue and surface carposporangia. Tetrasporangia form in slightly swollen sori in younger axes (Dixon and Irvine 1977).
