Taxonomic status: currently regarded as a synonym of Sargassum.
Nomenclatural notes
This genus was based on two species, C. trichophyllus Kuetzing and C. parvifolius (Turner) Kützing (Fucus parvifolius Turner), both of which have been referred to Sargassum C. Agardh 1820 (nom. cons.). - (25 Dec 2009) - M.D. Guiry
