Original publication and holotype designation: Lacoste de Díaz, E.N. (1973). Algunas algas dulciacuícolas interesantes de Brasil. Darwiniana 18(1/2): 118-128.

Description: Thalli colonial, oval to irregular, comprised of 4 to many cells embedded in mucilage. Cells fusiform with pointed ends, 21-46 x 4-10 µm. Cell walls smooth. Cells uninucleate; chloroplast single and parietal without pyrenoids. Asexual reproduction by autospores, (2-) 4-8 per sporangium; arranged in parallel; spores released by elongation and dissolution of parental cell wall or by transverse division of cell wall into two parts. Flagellated stages and sexual reproduction unknown. Pseudoquadrigula in freshwater; reported only from Brazil and Scotland. Genus distinguished from Quadrigula based on details of spore maturation and from Gregiochloris in which pyrenoid present.
