Description: Alga unicellular, solitary. Cells spherical or oval. Cell wall smooth. Young cells uninucleate; mature cells multinucleate. Multiple parietal chloroplasts lacking a pyrenoid. Reproduction via autospores, rarely via zoospores. Secondary carotenoids present in abundance. Aging culture colored brickred.
