Holotype species: Branchiophilus marinus W.Schäperclaus

Original publication and holotype designation: Schäperclaus, W. (1935). Fischkrankheiten. pp. 1-72, 16 pl.. Braunschweig: Gustav Wenzel & Sohn.

Description: Original description and photos inadequate for recognition. Author related it to phycomycetes and stated that it did not resemble Oodinium ocellatum Brown (now Amyloodinium). In 2nd edition, it is identified with Oodinium ocellatum, placing it in the Dinophytes without presenting new facts. Ectoparasitic on marine fishes.
