Meyeriella Skvortsov, 1968

Holotype species: Meyeriella viridis Skvortsov

Original publication and holotype designation: Skvortsov, B.V. (1968). Genus novum Mayeriella (Cryptomonadales) e China. Novitates Systematicae Plantarum Non Vascularium 5: 65-66, 2 figs.

Description: Free-swimming, biflagellate, dorsiventrally asymmetric monads; hemispherical with the ventral margin almost straight and the dorsal margin broadly rounded, compressed; with a firm, hyaline periplast, non-metabolic; flagella unequal, inserted mid-ventrally, the longer, one and one-half to two times the cell length; chloroplasts three to eight, flattened, distinct or not, green; with or without pyrenoids; nucleus central; with or without stigma. A little known freshwater genus recorded only from ditches and a lake near Harbin, northern Manchuria, China. It differs from Protochrysis and Hemiselmis (=Nephroselmis, sensu Pascher non Stein) by the number and color of the chloroplasts.
